Folio 1 on the real page 1

Add page numbers and skip the cover

Printed booklets usually leave the cover unnumbered. Uncheck page 1, set the start number to 1, and stamp a footer on the rest. The first selected page shows that start value, then it counts up. Labels are drawn in this tab.

Numbers are drawn in this tab. Your PDF is never uploaded.

No files yet. Drop them above. They stay in this tab and are never uploaded.

When to use this

Use this when the PDF has a cover, title page, or blank flyleaf that should not say “Page 1.” Uncheck those sheets, set start number to 1, and stamp a footer on the rest.

The first selected page shows the start value, then it counts up. That is how folio 1 lands on the real chapter page even when it is PDF page 2 or 3.

Numbers sit in the margin; they do not reflow the layout. If the author already numbered the file, you will get a second set, so organize or crop first if that would clash. For a full-page DRAFT instead, use Stamp DRAFT.

How to do it

  1. Drop the PDF. Page count is read in this tab.
  2. Pick a format (Page 1 of 10 is the default) and a footer position.
  3. Uncheck the cover (and a blank back if you have one). Leave start number at 1 unless you are continuing from another document.
  4. Add page numbers and download. The original file is not overwritten.

Tips

  • Merge chapters first, then number once, so folios run through the whole book.
  • Rotate sideways scans before you stamp headers. Otherwise the number sits on the long edge.
  • Facing-page inner/outer rules (InDesign-style) are not here. You get one position for every numbered page.

Questions

How do I skip the cover when adding page numbers?
Uncheck page 1 in the list. Set start number to 1 so the next selected page prints as 1, not 2.
Can I start numbering at a number other than 1?
Yes. Start number is what the first selected page shows. Use it to continue from another document.
Are page numbers added on a server?
No. Labels are drawn locally. Nothing is sent to LoveThisPDF.
